When WhatsApp turned eight in February, they have launched a new feature that seems to be pointing to their next innovation. The newest addition of status updates looks like another attempt by Facebook-owned messaging company for more heavy reliance on photos and short videos – the latest fashion trend among social media companies such as Snapchat.
This update adds camera button right where you take pictures or record videos which can then be instantly uploaded as your status.
You may have already noticed that if you share a post to your status, it’ll be removed from the app in about 24 hours. However, did you know that there’s an easy way of deleting those statuses?
You can delete your WhatsApp Status posts before they disappear automatically. Our guide will show you how!

Why Whatsapp Status Is Only 15 Seconds
Facebook’s popular messaging app, WhatsApp has announced that it is implementing a limit cap on its video status feature. The duration of uploads for the platform will be reduced to 15 seconds from 30 seconds not only in India but across all big countries where this service is available except China and Indonesia because they are already limited to 10 second videos.
After the recent update, WhatsApp users in India are limited to uploading a video status for no more than 15 seconds long. The change comes after an earlier announcement that capped statuses at 30 seconds and was met with mixed reviews.
This step is only taken in India due to the increase in use of the application in lockdown and it might be taken to limit the impact of surged traffic on the company’s servers.
Due to this reason sudden increase in the user traffic and huge increase in traffic is alarming for the servers to handle so this step is taken to keep things going smooth without any interruption.
The Indian government has imposed a countrywide lockdown since March 24, cutting off power and Internet services at many places. So, In order to stay in touch with friends and family during this self-isolation period, Indians living inside the quarantine zone are using WhatsApp for video chats or audio calls over data connections that remain open.
Some people have uploaded long updates on statuses of what they’ve been up too so far while others upload coronavirus related information from time to time in case anyone else has spotted something similar that can help them out!
If you are an Indian WhatsApp user, then there is good news for those who like to upload longer videos. You can now do so with the ability of splitting a video into smaller parts and uploading it onto your status!
According to WABetaInfo, the recent change of a 15-second video upload limit for WhatsApp Status is only applicable to those who are in Asian region. Those from other countries can still post videos that last longer than 30 seconds on their status updates without breaking it into smaller parts.
WABI, also suggests users to download Whatsapp only from the authorized resources. When installing a modified version of WhatsApp on your phone you still risk putting your privacy and security at stake. The chances are that if they catch you using this software, you will get banned for good!
The importance of official sources is stressed by WABI when recommending their customers not to use tweaked or modified versions and put themselves at high-risk at data safety and jeopardise access usage in general terms because these applications may be blocked permanently.
How To See Whatsapp Status Without Knowing Them
You may want to take a look at your friends’ WhatsApp statuses without letting them know. You get notified whenever someone sees your status, but there are some techniques which can help you in quietly checking out their statuses secretly. There are different methods to do so and I am going to tell you some of them in the following:
Official Method: Turn Off Read Receipts
The official method to see WhatsApp status without letting them know is to turn off your read receipt. This is the easiest way to view your contacts’ status updates on WhatsApp without notifying them. But remember that, you also lose access to read receipt indicators (blue ticks) in chats, but this may be worth it if you don’t want your contact knowing that you’ve seen their messages.
A bonus with this option is that they won’t know when or how often you’re reading their message because of lack of blue tick indicator!
For turning off read recipient follow the following steps:
- Open WhatsApp application in your phone.
- Go to its Settings >> Account >> Privacy
- There you will see the option Read Receipts turn it off from there.
Now, go to status and view anyone’s status without them notified!
View Status In Offline Mode
Forget notifying your contacts with WhatsApp status updates! You can view them offline without any notification. But do note that these are still recorded locally and synced to the servers once you reconnect, so even if you were viewing a status while being offline, it will send out notifications eventually when back online.
There is a way so that you can view status offline without notifying, by using WhatsApp Web in Incognito mode view a particular status while offline and then close the browser window before you connect to the Internet. By doing this anything stored on your computer browser database will be discarded and the activity will no longer be synced with the WhatsApp servers.
- On your web browser in Incognito mode open WhatsApp Web.
- Open the Status tab to view the list of contacts who updated a status.
- Now turn off the Internet connection of your computer.
- While disconnected to the internet, view the status of the contact which you wants to view secretly.
- After viewing the status, If you were in Incognito mode, the data of the session would be automatically deleted as you close the window.
- But if you are viewing in regular window just clear the history or data.
This method works fine with the text statuses but you cannot see the pictures and videos without connection to the internet so the app will download the content and display it to you.
But sometimes, WhatsApp even pre-downloads media from statuses that you haven’t opened yet and saves them on its servers – this allows an offline user with a good internet connection to view that photo or video.
